Can I get a job on a cruise ship for one cruise only?

I was wondering about an antarctica cruise. they cost around 8k. i figure if i get a job and could just go out to the continent for a few hours it would be worth working the whole cruise instead of paying 8k.Can I get a job on a cruise ship for one cruise only?
The only way you can work on a single cruise is as an active member of the Naval Reserve, and then, you would need to be a Watchkeeping Officer, a Doctor or a nurse. Even then you don't get to pick which cruise you go on, the cruise line decides that for you.

You'd better start saving the 8k.

Your only chance is go as an onboard historian/lecturer. But you need to have a strong background in that area, and be knowledgeable about the history, culture, people, etc.. about the places you are visiting. Normally you have to be a college professor, either active or retired to get this type of position.



Cruise lines will not hire normal crew for just one cruise. There is way too much training, and too many costs involved to have people work just for one cruise and than leave.



So save your pennies and go when you can afford it.



Or if you are serious about being a crew member, be a crew member for a full contract. The crew works long and hard and are away from home for a long time. And for someone like to you say you want to work just for one cruise in order to get a discount is pretty sad, and a mockery of ship crews.
