Whenever I call about an application they basically tell me not to call...?

I called Applebees and Regal Cinema about an application I put in and they both basically told me not call that they would call if they wanted to hire me. I kind of felt like they were being rude. I've always been told if you really want the job you should call. I waited a week before I called. Is this normal? They might have been acting all rude because you're not the first nor will you be the last to call them. And also you asked the wrong person. You need to ask to speak to the hiring manager. If they say they're not in ask when they will be in. So call back and try it again. You should be able to check the status of your application without any trouble.
