Cheap international flights - where do i search?

Which are the links i go to to find cheap international travel ?

i mean - bucket fares ( whatever they are )

- cheap fars booked in advance

- last minute deals

- schemes and packages given by airlines or countries from time to time ( for ex - , i got a travellers pass from SA airways ten years back, a sri lankan fight plus hotel pacage 5 years back, a malaysian airline 3 stop deal 2 years back.......) any one shop website hosting links to all these deals ?

- anything else ?Cheap international flights - where do i search?
There are several ways to get the best airfare: Try one of the big companies: Travelocity.com. or Expedia.com. The advantage to them is that they show many different airlines and the cheapest prices for both the specific date you want to fly and the dates surrounding that date. In case your plans are flexible. The disadvantage is that you are locked into the fare dates. If you want to change a date due to injury or an emergency, their fees can be extreme.

Try the airlines directly. Either their Web sites or direct telephone lines. Some of the Airlines offer low price guarantees meaning that if you find a cheaper fight on another Web site they may match the price or beat it. Each airline is different though, so you have to check them out individually.

Just remember, if you are going to try to get the cheapest flights, the airlines normally have restrictions. You may have to purchase the ticket 14 or 21 days in advance, there may be no refunds or changes allowed. You really need to know these restrictions. If you try looking for a last-minute flight you will end up paying a lot more, although there are occasional exceptions. I personally, managed a last minute ticket to S.F on the Millennium New Years eve. And received a better price than my friends that had booked a month in advance! But… you cannot depend on this at all.

Usually travel agents do not get the lowest fares and sometimes they tack on a commission. Travel agencies used to be the best way to get the best airfare, but with the Internet, It is now just as easy for individuals to check themselves.

If you call an airline directly (they all have toll-free numbers), be sure to ask them if they have any specials. Often they do have specials, but you have to ask them about them!

So be careful about restrictions on tickets. Be aware of charges for overweight baggage and remember that many of the very CHEAP fares you see in the Travel section of the local Papers are fares that are quoted, “without taxes” Taxes can really add up.

Have fun and happy travels.
Best I've found are Kayak.com and cfares.com Buying way out doesn't do much anymore. I bought tickets 9 months ahead this year from Texas to Turks and Caicos and the prices went down about 2 months later from 600 to 400.

Sign up for "buzz" alerts on kayak, they check all the sites. But cfares is pretty outstanding, i saved a hundred a ticket from Texas to Rome this year for 3 tickets. they beat everyone that time.

safe journeysCheap international flights - where do i search?
Go to the airlines website FIRST. They usually have a low fare guarantee, which means that they'll beat any other price available online. e.g.

www.continental.com (Continental)

www.aa.com (American Airlines)

www.united.com (United Airlines)

etc...if you desire other airlines.

other than that, try

www.cheaptickets.com

www.orbitz.com

www.priceline.com

for last minute,

go to www.lastminute.com

Now the schemes and packages thing might be tough nowadays as airlines are competing to offer no frills flights. Yeah bad news to us travellers, but hey you want cheap flights right??

Spend some time looking through the web. Or else if you know airline employees, ask them for a companion pass. Then you'll REALLY be paying rock bottom prices. Good luck!

I would go to vayama.com or statravel.com (if you are of student age).

Vayama almost always has the cheapest fares around unless you can find a specialty travel agency for China. HIS Travel is great for Japan and always beats everyone because they buy blocks of tickets for cheap and then pass on the discount, but like I said, they are only for travel to and from Japan, not Hong Kong.

Vayama much better than the other "mainstream" sites like Travelocity, Expedia, etc. Everytime I have used it, I've either gotten the same price or better from Vayama as I would have gotten from those other sites because it searches those sites for fares as well.

Hope this helps!

What are the best places to search for cheap international flights among many major airlines?

kayak.com searches all the major sites as well as a lot of the other travel websites.

BE VERY WARY of certain people here who cut and paste answers and give you obscure websites with a string of numbers in the URL.

Does anyone know how to get really cheap international flights?!?

I really want to fly from somewhere near New York to Cairo, Egypt. It's like, number 3 or something on my bucket list. i'm working this summer and want to put away money for airfares and whatnot, but i don't think a little summer job at an ice cream shop is going to give me a wonderful trip to Egypt. So does anyone know any tips or anything that can get me some deals on flights like contests...something? Please help and be as specific as possible, it's really important to me. :-)Does anyone know how to get really cheap international flights?!?
Try 'name your own price' on Priceline.com, you might get really cheap tickets. The catch is you can only put in the departure and destination cities and the dates and bid on a ticket. If you bidding price is accepted, you'd be charged right away before you can find out the detailed itinerary which most probably would be horrible. You could be leaving on a 6 am flight then wait for 10 hours for another red eye flight or making 1 or 2 more stops until you arrive.
No, there aren't any "tricks". It will be expensive and there isn't much that you can do about it.Does anyone know how to get really cheap international flights?!?

    There are deals that come up all the time - it just depends on where you wanna go.

    Right now is a high time for travelling so you'll generally be paying more no matter where you go to, but if you can hold off to travel in September or after, prices drop a lot and a lot of seat sales come up.

    You should check out sites like travelzoo.ca (sign up for the weekly top 20 newsletter) and flightcentre.ca for great last minute deals as they come up.

    The best way for international fares is to check with your travel agent, they use consolidator's for net fares, of course they mark it up but it's off the net, you will only find published pricing online, you can save alot of money getting your ticket through consolidators, when I buy mine my travel agent uses Skylink.......

    What's the best website for finding cheap international flights?

    There is no secret, magic website with the "cheapest" airfares. You have to do the research, and be as flexible as possible regarding travel dates.

    Check the travel sites (airgorilla, expedia, priceline, travelocity, etc.) and also check the airline websites. I have often (not always, but often) found the best fares on the airline websites. Remember to check airlines like JetBlue and Southwest that do not use the travel sites.

    Check with a real travel agent to ask about promotional fares and special deals.

    If you also need a hotel or rental car, check the cost of combining the purchases in a package. For example, I found a deal with airfare + hotel in Hawaii for a week that was only $100 more than just the airfare.

    When traveling to far destinations check the prices when you split the ticket. For example, searching "Chicago to Nairobi" (all on one ticket) MAY cost much more than searching "Chicago to London" and then "London to Nairobi". If that turns out to be the case, talk to a real travel agent about getting the better fare all on one ticket.

    Looking for the best website to buy cheap flights- not just Orbitz, Expedia, etc... Something with a real discount. Particularly interested in flights from US (Boston) to Eastern Europe.Best website for cheap international flights?
    I recommend you go through a travel agent. The travel websites pretty much all offer similar pricing on flights. Also flights to Eastern Europe are not cheap because there are not a lot of flights going there, so less competition means higher prices.
    As far as I know, there is no low cost airlines flying to Eastern Europe from Boston.

    So you have no other choice, but classical tips:

    -- travel mid-week, instead of weekend

    -- avoid peak season such as year end

    -- book as soon as possible.

    With regards to booking sites, all of them are not equal. I found that Travelocity and lastminutes.com usually offer the cheapest deals worldwide.

    Cheaper deals may be found only on routes with low cost no frills airlines. This is not possible between USA and Eastern Europe.

    Fly mid-week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday);

    Consider travelling on a lesser-known carrier;

    Avoid peak holiday travel times, such as the summer season, Christmas and Easter. January-March would be the best time to fly to london cheap.

    First you should do research find a deal on a discount website like expedia.com, when you find out how much the trip costs (lets say it is AUD1000) call the airline you are flying with and say I found this flight on _________.com for AUD1000 can I buy directly from you for 990 or sometimes less. They will usually say yes because, Airlines have to pay like 10% to that website. But if you buy directly from them they get to keep that ten percent and will be a lot happier

    Is it true you can get dirt cheap international flights if you turn upto an airport & just get a spare seat?

    Me and my friend are thinking of just packing our bags, and turning upto the airport to see if we can take advantage of any dirt cheap empty seats on a flight to anywhere! Is it true that you can get seats for a knock down price?Is it true you can get dirt cheap international flights if you turn upto an airport %26amp; just get a spare seat?
    yes its true, only problem is the seats tend to be strapped to the wing!
    I wouldn't chance it if you want to be flying together. They may have a spare seat, but rarely two at a time.

    If you are willing to fly separately and arrive in your goal city at different times (even different days) it's worth a try.Is it true you can get dirt cheap international flights if you turn upto an airport %26amp; just get a spare seat?
    They are called Sandby fares.

    It depends on the airline, how good you are at negotiating and remember you have to come home again and your language skills may not be good enough to bargain in a foreign airport.

    .
    i was wondering this myself, ill try and find out and get back to ya
    I have heard that some bargains can be had but I think it;s risky and unlikely. You would be far better going to a travel agent and seeing what last minute holidays and flights are available.
    It is called "stand-by" and that is what it is. You may stand there for a long time. You might make it to one city and have to stand there again for your next flight. Too much trouble
    It's true. I turned up at Gatwick and got a dirt cheap flight to Novosibirsk with Trans-Ural Airlines. My wife got a dirtier and cheaper flight to Ouagadougou with Burkina Faso International Airways.

    We had a lovely couple of weeks apart.
    Generally no, you can not turn up and expect cheap seats. Airlines have figured out that doing this conditions customers to expect cheap flights, so instead they use "yield management" to make the most profit from each flight, and filling last minute seats cheaply does not support this model.

    That said, with the right tools, you might be able to do alright with a "normal" advance purchase fare--with as few as 3 days advance. It depends where you'll be travelling from, and where you want to go.
    No.

    I lived near Gatwick, and a few times enquired at the check-in desks for cheap seats for immediate departure, and the prices were higher than if I had booked a few days in advance.
    Generally no. Most airlines have different type of fared tickets and the cheapest ones go first and that is why you might pay more the closer you get to your departure date. Sometimes if there's cancellations those fares open back up or if they need to fill a lot of seats they might come up with a special fare but this is rare. This year more people are traveling more than ever before so airlines really don't need many flights with last minute cheap fares. Also, if you're from the states, this is the high season for international travel a lot of flights are booked full, and possibly oversold, so if you do happen to find a flight with a few open seats you'll pay a lot.

    All the websites I've looked up have been close to 1,000 dollars for a ticket. I know there has got to be cheaper ones. Anyone know of any good websites?Does anyone know where to find cheap international flights?
    Finding cheap air tickets are really not as difficult as one may feel. In fact it is quite a simple process provided one knows all the right steps. Booking early, low-cost carriers and connecting flights are just three of them. Take a look at some more.
    Well what country are you going to? What airport is closest to you? When are you going on your trip? When are you coming home? If you're going to go across an ocean, that adds to the cost (Especially the Pacific Ocean). If you're going in the summer, then that will raise the price.

    Try kayak.com I'm using them to prepare for my next summer trip to South Korea and leaving in June and coming back in August and that's 1065$ in airfare, taxes, and fees. Quite a good price. Last year, I booked in like April and it cost me around 1300. I'm buying my ticked in two weeks for a flight six months down the road. The average cost from San Francisco to Seoul is 1500. So, to get 1065 or even 1300 is quite a good deal!

    I'm ever hopeful for under 1000 too, but it's summer and across an ocean and there's little hope for that. I do recommend Kayak, orbitz or expedia will delay the same 1065 flight for 1200 something! Also check the airliner's website. That's almost always cheaper than these generic travel sites.Does anyone know where to find cheap international flights?
    no such thing depending on destination and where you want to fly out of.

    also when you wish to fly has an impact on prices.

    Hi everyone. I'm from Melbourne, Australia and next year I'm planning to be in Hong Kong from mid Feb to mid May, then travel back home via Vietnam and Thailand. I'm using websites to compare prices and I'm finding that 'multi stop' tickets (e.g. 'Melb, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Phuket, Melb') are VERY expensive. Should I just get a one-way from Melb to HK and buy the other legs later? Help! Thanks!What's the best way to go about cheap international flights?
    Sure, as long as each place will let you enter on a one-way ticket without showing proof of onward travel. Many places won't. You can check that here: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservatio鈥?/a>

    Are you aware of Tiger Air, Jetstar, and other low-cost airlines? Here: http://www.discountairfares.com/lcostaus鈥?/a> It might be cheaper to book your own one-way flights with these, and use your printed e-ticket receipt as "proof of onward travel" when entering each country.

    The big airline search sites usually don't cover these new low-cost airlines. However, it wouldn't hurt to try your itinerary with these multi-stop searches:

    Sometimes it's cheapest to find the lowest cost transatlantic flight from a US gateway to London and then take a discount carrier to your final European destination. Sign up for low fare alerts with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Icelandic, American, Continental, Lufthansa, Air France, etc. If you end up in London Heathrow for example, you just need to take the bus (or train) to Gatewick, Stansted or Luton to catch a cheap flight to Berlin. Ryanair, Easyjet, Air Berlin are possibilities. If you get a cheap transatlantic flight into Frankfurt or Munich, you can try Air Berlin or dba airlines to get to the capital. If your dates are flexible, you might want to check day-to-day and be ready to go if a cheap flight appears. Sometimes the price will drop right before the flight day if the flight isn't full.

    You may also want to try alternative airports and linking with a train.
    If you fly regular economy, your ticket will be from $1000-$1800 per person. It's cheaper when you book your flight with your hotel.

  • When is the best time of the week or day to purchase cheap international flights?

    I heard airlines release hold flights in the early morning and late at night. Has anyone found this to be true?When is the best time of the week or day to purchase cheap international flights?
    Typically, airlines will load new fares late in the evening, but there are instances where sales can occur that last several hours at the most, so the price could well change during the middle of the day. Add in the complexities of airline pricing, which price tickets based on available inventory on a specific flights, and you'll find that tickets can change on a nearly constant basis.

    Ultimately, what this means, in my opinion, is that there really isn't a best time of the day or week to buy cheap international airline tickets, because of the way that pricing works. Additionally, there are quite a few other factors that go into determining the price for international destinations, such as demand of the route and destination, the minimum stay, and so on. The page linked below has some discussion on some of the things you can do to improve your chances of finding a cheaper ticket.
    With all the flying I've done. Best times to book is as early as you can say now and you want to fly out in 1 Month+ and try to book around Tuesday to Thursday. Wednesday being the prime day.

    Best times usually earliest or the latest flights you can get.

    Most people want to fly out on a Monday and come back on a Friday.

    Weekends are even worse avoid them.

    Also you can save even more if your willing to have lay overs. Basically these are the flights that you pick up when they're returning a plane to its start location.

    If you're going to book online I recommend using www.hotwire.com I had bad experiences with the other sites I've used this being the best.When is the best time of the week or day to purchase cheap international flights?
    day: week days like tuesdays or wednesdays. monday is expensive. saturday can be cheap depending on whether you are travelling from an industrial city

    check out http://flyairfares.com for tips and coupons.
    i've always had better experience booking early. expedia also seems to have great prices.

    What is the best site to look for cheap international flights to europe?

    I want to travel to france this year durring summer, im not sure what date would be good to leave so i am looking for a site that would have the cheapest flights and hopefully it could compare the prices of flights by days leaving and coming back. this is really important to me and i dont have much money so i am hoping to get the best deal possible. all tips and help would be very very special to me in reaching my goal. please help if you know of any sites or just anything at all that could help.What is the best site to look for cheap international flights to europe?
    For cheap tickets, try:

    Hotwire.com

    Expedia.com

    Travelocity.com

    Kayak.com

    Cheaptickets.com

    Bing.com/travel

    Have a great trip!
    One thing to remember is everyone has a different idea on what is "cheap".....and many of those well-known "major" travel sites are owned by the same company, which means normally not much differences in their prices. And the problem with just checking those sites only, is you might miss out on great deals that may be available on another travel site!

    You have to think of these online travel sites like grocery stores - they all sell the same thing, the only difference is their price. SO - Why pay more for the same thing the other guys are selling???

    I suggest trying this online travel site to see if they any deals available:

    www.everydaytravelconnections.com

    Hope this helps!What is the best site to look for cheap international flights to europe?

    What is the best way to get really cheap international flights?

    I have heard of something where you go and deliver something in another country for a company. By doing that you get really cheap airfares. Is this true and how do I go about?What is the best way to get really cheap international flights?
    To get cheap International Flights you need to monitor offers from different travel websites. For example Yatra.com gives $30 discount for US citizens traveling India. easydestination.net gives discount and prizes to Indian Citizens traveling abroad. Just look for such offers from travel websites.
    Courier services are very specialised and only availabe at short/instant notice.

    Do like the rest of us. Compare all/many of the websites offering flights. Soem are high priced some are very good value. There is no one cheap site for everywhere. I have my favourite 6 sites and compare every time for several weeks before I will actually book.

    For example just booked a flight at Flybe to Scotland in May knowing they had just released their summer schedule. Flight is free just pay taxes!What is the best way to get really cheap international flights?
    First, you need to book your ticket early. I would recommend checking out the website BookMe dot com. You can compare ALL the reputable travel ticket sites, and save money. Good luck!
    You can take advantage of special offers like $15 off coupon code NY15 from CheapOair that will end on 1/15/09.
    Its better to search through best online travel sites like..

    www.expedia.com

    www.onetravel.com

    www.travelocity.com

    www.orbitz.com

    www.cheaptickets.com

    Good Luck !
    I would recommend letmebook.com

    You can double check that the price you have found is the cheapest one

    What is the best way to find cheap international flights?

    I'm wanting a one-way ticket to Costa Rica for late December or early January, from Minneapolis. I know there are several places to book flights online, but which do you recommend?

    Thanks.What is the best way to find cheap international flights?
    Honestly I suggest booking at a local travel agent. They can help you with everything and they can find you a cheap deal. Plus if you ever have any trouble at all (miss flight, have to cancel, change dates etc.) they can help you.
    You are right, there are many place to book flights online! One thing to remember is that many of those well-known "major" travel sites are owned by the same company, which means normally not much differences in their prices. The problem with that is you might miss out on great deals that may be available!

    You have to think of these online travel sites like grocery stores or gas stations - they all sell the same thing, the only difference is their price. Why pay more for the same thing the other guys are selling???

    I suggest trying this online travel site to see if they any deals available:

    http://go.travelpn.com/flights/GoToNewSe鈥?/a>What is the best way to find cheap international flights?
    personally i like priceline....
    Early January is probably better than late December. I found a flight for $288 on dohop.com, see here: http://www.dohop.com/flights/?a1=MSP%26amp;a2=鈥?/a>

    Hope that helps!

    Can someone give me a starting point for finding cheap international flights?

    I'm not even sure where to begin looking. I want the cheapest flights that I can get -- will be from the US midwest to Europe. That's as far as I have planned as of now, just looking to begin making some preparations for a trip I'll take in 3-4 years' time. If you could let me know which site you use to purchase cheap airplane tickets, that would be greatly appreciated.Can someone give me a starting point for finding cheap international flights?
    Airlines have not scheduled out that far so there would not be pricing available. I suggest you start looking about 11 months before you want to fly out. You can search http://www.kayak.com and see what price a travel agent will quote you.
    麓3-4 years in advance is way too long to say. I used orbitz and sidestep various times. Use Google to find similar sites and compare rates. Be flexible if you can with the dates and times (red-eye and mid-week flights are cheaper), also stay away from days before and after holidays (Christmas Eve, New year麓s eve, etc) but if you can fly ON the holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc) rates are usually cheaper and the airports are less crowded... I flew from BMI on the 4th of July one year and the airport was dead! Also sometimes it helps if you check the actual airline and book through them as opposed to the travel web page (again check and compare).

    Another great airline: spiritair.com. Not sure if they fly where you want to go but I flew international Round trip from Bogot谩 Colombia to Washington DC for just $350 last year! When I had flown previously the same route, it cost me $650! Now, they are a 篓no frills篓 airline and don麓t give you free snacks or anything (you can still purchase those either in the airport or on board) but still.Can someone give me a starting point for finding cheap international flights?
    Everyone wants to get best deals on international travel with cheap flights.There is an immense competition among online travel service companies that are specialized in cheap airfare tickets and cheap international flights.You should take the advantage of this and try to get the best deal.

    I always find great prices on Globester.You can buy cheap flights %26amp; compare very cheap international flights with prices of different airlines.
    Well, most sites don't even have schedules 4 years ahead, if even 1 year.

    I would recommend signing up for emails from all the US Carriers (US Airways, Delta, United, and American). They always send emails containing fare discounts for Europe destinations.
    Delta and British Airways always have the cheapest rates. You might want to check those before checking anywhere else. The service during the flight is pretty decent, considering how much you pay for them.
    Look for packages, those tend to be cheaper than getting a hotel, rental, etc. all yourself. Also, they tend to have great last minute deals!

    iam lookinf for cheap flights, and im super flexable on days

    Virgin Atlantic don't serve Canada. Try WestJet for international flights within North America, and try Canadian Affair for flights to the UK. These do not show up anywhere else, not even on aggregators such as Kayak, or mega-aggregators such as http://www.bookingbuddy.com which not only search Kayak, but even more aggregators, plus consolidators, and actual airline websites.

    Virgin Atlantic has low prices and sometimes Air Canada prices are almost as low, it depends on when and where you are flying. Do not forget Priceline.com and name your own price.

    Cheap international flights to Tokyo in particular?

    I need to find DIRT Cheap tickets from either Miami, Orlando, or Atlanta to Tokyo (Narita Airport). I am practically willing to fly in the cargo area lol. I just need to find some really cheap tickets. It's easy to find very cheap tickets for domestic flights.. but international flights never have any truly affordable options. Does anyone have any way that they can think of to help me? Thanks for all of your help!Cheap international flights to Tokyo in particular?
    It depends on when you want to travel. If you want to fly during the summer months or around Christmas, you will not find anything. You can start off with http://www.kayak.com and see if there is an Asian travel agency near you. Asian travel agencies buy tickets in large quantities and receive discount pricing from airlines and they will pass some of the savings onto you. I always go through the Asian travel agency in our area whenever I fly to Malaysia.
    There's no website or airline that will ALWAYS be the "cheapest". If they say they ARE.....you better run the other way! Everyone has a different opinion on what;s "cheap".....That's why you have to shop around every time you book ANY travel. Try to be flexible on your dates and times. If you can drive a short distance to a "less" busy airport, that might help save some money. Try to book your flight early am or late pm, that can sometimes save money. Weekdays are usually cheaper than weekends.

    But don't limit your search to ONLY those "well-known" travel sites (most are owned by the same company) which means not much difference in the price. They make you think you're stuck with that price! So,be sure to check other travel sites; otherwise you might miss out on a great deal!

    Think of these travel sites like grocery stores, they all "sell" the same thing. So, why pay more for the same flight those other guys are selling?

    Try this travel site;

    www.everydaytravelconnections.com

    Hope this helps!Cheap international flights to Tokyo in particular?

    Try a local travel agent who has access to consolidated fares, consolidated fares can be much less than airline or travel websites.

    Where can I find cheap international flights?

    I'm studying abroad in Europe, but I'd like to go home for Christmas to see my family. But it's so expensive! My mom says she keeps reading articles about how airlines are reducing prices... But I only see the flights I'm watching go up!

    Where can I get a cheap international flight?Where can I find cheap international flights?
    I would highly recommend both hotwire and priceline, flycheapabroad, and bookairlinetickets.com. I've searched around for airfare quite a bit, and these three sites usually ring true as the cheapest. Other than that, I'd go to sites like igougo.com, travelzoo.com, kayak.com, and bookingbuddy.com. These sites offer searches of multiple online airfare websites, making it easier and less time consuming to compare prices. As for when to buy, I usually go to farecast.com. They pretty accurately predict when a good time to buy a flight would be based off of past and current trends, etc. It's pretty useful. Another site I've found handy is rightflight.org. They did a bunch of research on the various airfare sites to see which sites are usually the cheapest. They also have a list of most of the international airfare sites on their webpage (60+), which can be pretty handy in and of itself. Hope this helped!

    i always find it best to fly out of chicago or new york for my international flights. i don't know how cheap you are looking, but you can definitely find something good if you compare ALL the major travel sites. i would recommend BookMe.com for a quick way of doing so.

    Where can I find cheap international flights?
    Try looking on a website like www.expedia.com. But Christmas is always expensive so don't expect any huge bargains. Good luck though!
    Try STA travel. They offer discount student travel options and are pretty good in Europe.

    What has more amazing scenic areas, Sequoia Natl. Park or Redwoods National Park? I can only go to one.?

    I am going to San Francisco %26amp; Yosemite. I have time to drive to either Sequoi or Redwoods. In either case I would only go for 1 day, no long hikes, just short trails. Which one should I go to?What has more amazing scenic areas, Sequoia Natl. Park or Redwoods National Park? I can only go to one.?
    It all depends on what you like. Sequoia National Park is more open and has more canyons and overviews (it is fairly similar to Yosemite in that respect) and Redwoods is more closed in (because there aren't any mountains to get up onto and check out the landscape).

    Personally if I had to choose and had just been to Yosemite, I'd go up to Redwoods instead of Sequoia mostly because Yosemite and Sequoia are so similar. They're at about the same elevation in the same mountain range, The only difference really is that Sequoia has more of the big trees and Yosemite has better cliffs and waterfalls.

    And if you have your heart set on seeing giant sequoias, there are a couple groves of them in Yosemite ( I recommend Maraposia Grove near the south entrance).

    Your question about world prisoners makes no sense. Can you rephrase it?

    Paranoid schizophrenia is a serious illness, but it is treatable. Seek help. Those mysterious men in black who are following you around might just be from the Department of Mental Health here to get you the treatment you need.

    UPDATE:

    Yes, I do know more than you about all of this.

    The U.N. controls no land, period. The Department of the Interior controls the land. Our country owns it and controls the mineral, animal, and land rights.

    Apartame is a natural plant starch extract. Nitrates are naturally occurring and used for oxidation. MSG is a natural salt. Most food dyes are plant or insect extracts. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral.

    I agree that jailing people for pot is wrong, despite what it has obviously done to your mind.

    The patent in question specifically says "ABANDONED" if you care to pull up the copy at the U.S. Patent website.

    Absorbing carbon dioxide is not the same as breathing. If absorbing something was the same as breathing then I could say that my bath towel is breathing up a lot of water.

    It's not "chemtrail". it's contrail, and they make pictures with it all the time. Ever hear of sky writing?

    I still don't get what you're asking about prisoners. Saying the exact same thing is not really "rephrasing" the question.

    Yes, I am a "dik", but that doesn't mean you aren't a paranoid schizophrenic who needs medication, so that makes us even.

    Take care and have a lithium day!

    P.S.: I'm watching you.

    Big Sur, CA?

    I'm just wondering if the Big Sur area of California has the same giant redwoods as Redwoods National Park does? I'm going to be out there in a couple months, and it would be easier to make a stop in Big Sur on my way from San Fransisco to San Diego then it would be to drive 3 or 4 hours north of 'Frisco to the national park.Big Sur, CA?
    It's almost a six hour drive if you're coming from SF. There's Muir Woods, north of SF on the north side of the GG Bridge, there's Big Basin near Saratoga/Santa Cruz. ANd yes, the trees near Big Sur are huge.
    Not that i ever noticed.Big Sur, CA?
    It doesn't have redwoods the size that they grow in the north. However, they're pretty big. Pfeiffer Park has the largest one, next to the softball field.
    Take the time to drive to Monterrey, Big Sur down to Pismo... Hwy 1.

    It's an experience you'll remember your entire life.
    No, not the same. Very nice forests, but not the same at all.
    I didnt see any giant redwoods down at Big Sur when i went past there recently.

    I've been to Muir woods and Big basin. Those 2 places are really nice. I didnt stop at Big Sur, but it sure looks pretty nice. You should go check it out anyways.

    How cold does it get in the redwood region of California during winter?

    Ive never been there, but plan on moving around the redwood national park.How cold does it get in the redwood region of California during winter?
    Cool, but the proximity to the ocean usually keeps it from getting below freezing for any length of time. However, this area gets a ton of rain and wind in the winter, and a lot of fog and drizzle the rest of the year.

    But for my money, one of the most beautiful places on earth.

    They are both great parks if I could only go to one then I would choose Sequoia. Just a personal preference as the area has much more montanans. It is also going to be a lot easier for you to get to as Sequoia is only about a 3hr drive from Yosemite. Redwoods is a 6hr drive from San Francisco.
    I also would have to say Sequoia. You can also see some pretty big trees in Yosemite in the Maraposa grove. If you have any questions about Yosemite, e-mail me as I have been going there every year for 25 years and know it well.What has more amazing scenic areas, Sequoia Natl. I much prefer the variety of vistas at Sequoia and Yosemite. Redwoods is picturesqe, but it mostly IS the trees.
    I already told you, Sequoia.

    To my way of thinking if you're pressed for time then it's a no-brainer.%26gt;SeKi is your obvous choice

    Route it this way

    SFO%26gt;Visalia CA%26gt;loop it through SeKi%26gt; coming out at Fresno then into Oakhurst CA and do Yosemite from S to N

    If the road going across the Park thru Tuolomne Pass is open [it currently isn't] then do that road to Lee Vining CA%26gt;S.Lake Tahoe CA %26gt;Truckee CA%26gt;SFO

    The issue w/going to Redwood NP from Yosemite NP or SFO is that it's really far and there is really no fast way to do itWhat has more amazing scenic areas, Sequoi Natl. Park or Redwoods National Park? I can only go to one.?
    That's quite a subjective question. You should just research both online and look at pics and prices.

  • Which Redwood Park is the best?

    I'm planning a trip and I've noticed there are at least 3 Redwood State parks and 1 Redwood National park. I only have time to go to one. Which do you recommend?Which Redwood Park is the best?
    All of them!

    If you only had one day, which would you see: Redwood National Park, Muir Forrest, or Sequoia National Park?

    If you're coming from San Francisco, do Muir Woods. It's close, beautiful, and the trees are just as tall. You can hike/drive from the woods to Stinson Beach or the Marin Headlands. It's pretty much a full day excursion.

    Sequoia and Redwood National Parks are great, but they're really more overnight trips than a daytrip. Some people try to do it in a day, but most of their time will be spent on the road instead of the actual woods.If you only had one day, which would you see: Redwood National Park, Muir Forrest, or Sequoia National Park?
    Sequoia is more of a drive from San Francisco, as is Redwood. If you had one day, go to Muir then on the way stop at Sausilito, Corte Madera, etc. If you go to the other two, you'll spend hours in the car.
    sequoia national parkIf you only had one day, which would you see: Redwood National Park, Muir Forrest, or Sequoia National Park?
    Personally in a week i am going to Muir woods....however we are taking a side trip to Yosemite too!
    For only one day, do the Muir Woods. Sausalito is fun, too, on the way back.
    Redwood and Sequoia are at least 5 hours away from the Bay Area. For one day, there are plenty of trails in Muir, which can go to the ocean, or you can just park your car for a picnic. In Sequoia, you have to hike a great deal to see the dramatic sites.
    Muir Woods for the location and time that you have. Enjoy
    A lot depends on where my starting point was.

    I mean, if I'm in SF, going to Sequoia is a full day excursion, so I would go to Muir Woods

    How many hours does it take to explore the Redwoods National park?

    My husband and I are planning a trip to CA and we need to know if we need more than one day to spend at the park. Thanks!How many hours does it take to explore the Redwoods National park?
    Depends on why you are going there.

    If you just want to see the big trees from the comfort of your car, you can do it in 1-2 hours. Less if you don't drive all the way in.

    If you are seriously into trees and have to hike through them, feel, and sit and commune with them then it is a full day at least.

    Besides sightseeing, I was wondering what are some fun, active things to do at the Grand Canyon and Redwood National Park.Vacation: Grand Canyon/Redwood National Park?
    At Grand Canyon, you can ride a mule down a (somewhat narrow) trail into the canyon. You could also hike down that same trail (or other trails). There are helicopter rides over the canyon. You can camp down near the Colorado River at the bottom of the canyon. There are rafting trips you can take down the river in the canyon.

    It's been a long time since I've been to Redwood. I think the primary activities there are sightseeing, camping, hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding. Here's a link to the park's "Things To Do" information: http://www.nps.gov/redw/planyourvisit/th鈥?/a>

    Stunted redwoods, flooded campgrounds and a mighty Yosemite waterfall reduced to a trickle.

    Those are a few of the dire consequences facing 10 California parks over the next century because of rapidly changing climate patterns, according to a new study by an environmental think tank.

    "We're trying to illustrate that the ways we affect the climate affect the places we love," said Stephen Saunders, a former deputy at the U.S. Department of the Interior under President Bill Clinton and president of the nonprofit Rocky Mountain Climate Organization in Denver. "It's not just about ice caps and polar bears. This is going to hit us at home."

    The report released Tuesday by Saunders' group and the Natural Resources Defense Council, titled "California's National Parks in Peril: the Threats of Climate Disruption," found that unless humans slash carbon emissions in the near term, some of the Golden State's natural wonders will disappear over the next 90 years.

    Ripple effect of heat

    The main culprit is a steadily warming atmosphere stoked by a cauldron of heat-trapping pollution. If the use of fossil fuels continues to increase at a moderate clip, average temperatures in Yosemite National Park could climb by 7.5 degrees in the latter third of the 21st century.

    Temperatures in Muir Woods National Monument and Point Reyes National Seashore could increase by about 6 degrees - making them higher than historic temperatures in Santa Barbara. Highs in places such as Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave National Preserve could top the blistering temperatures normally found in Death Valley, the hottest spot in North America.

    Those few degrees have drastic implications for water supply, vegetation growth, insect infestation, loss of animal habitat and wildfire risk, Saunders reported.

    Many parks affected

    Among the study's most startling predictions:

    -- Joshua trees, which need low seasonal temperatures to produce seeds, could disappear from the namesake Southern California park.

    -- Beaches, wetlands and picnic areas at Point Reyes National Seashore could be inundated as sea levels rise between 2 and 4.7 feet.

    -- Less snow and more rain could mean earlier, longer and more frequent dry spells for Yosemite Falls.

    -- Fewer foggy days in Muir Woods and Redwood National Park could limit the growth of sequoias.

    The 34-page report relied on weather modeling and greenhouse gas data from the California Climate Change Center, U.S. National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey and UC San Diego, among others.

    In addition to Tuesday's report, the group has studied climate change impacts on parks across Virginia and in several states in the Western United States. One of Saunders' most staggering conclusions is that the glaciers in Montana's Glacier National Park could melt in the next two decades.

    Tuesday's findings echo those outlined by others, including researchers in the Bay Area, the U.S. government and the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In fact, many scientists long involved in those efforts now believe Earth's atmosphere is warming even more quickly than thought just a few years ago.

    Measuring impacts

    A California Energy Commission paper last year concluded that the state is already experiencing measurable impacts because of climate change, including more frequent, longer and larger wildfires, a warming Lake Tahoe, a shorter winter rainy season, and falling snowpack levels.

    Both studies contend climate change poses grave threats to California's economy. Visitors to California's national parks, for instance, spend about $1.2 billion each year.

    Climate change also has taken on political urgency this fall, as California voters will decide next week the fate of AB32, the state's landmark 2006 measure that intends to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020, returning them to 1990 levels. Opponents want to freeze the regulations with Proposition 23, saying moving forward with limits on greenhouse gases will stifle job growth in California amid a sluggish economy. Supporters insist AB32's policies will boost a burgeoning green technology industry and stave off some of the most devastating effects of climate change.

    Regardless of the election's outcome, most experts agree that the pollution humans have pumped into the air for generations will be with us for some time.

    "Even a scenario that drastically curtails emissions of greenhouse gases may still lead to undesirable trends in warming and sea level rise," the energy commission report stated

    i rly need help :P please thanks :)Could someone explain this article to me?
    The article essentially tries to draw focus towards the issue of global warming from a more personal standpoint. Most of us can barely imagine polar ice caps and polar bears and how they are affected by the warming temperatures, but the effects in the United States are easier to relate to. The list of conclusions the article gives you summarize the negative effects global warming is having right here in the United States.

    Interesting article. Pine beetles in particular are a good example of a big impact from climate change, as their numbers increase due to milder winters failing to kill them off.Petri dish for climate change?
    Global warming is connected with natural weathers. For example, Methane is given off by rotting vegetation and rubbish. That Methane then damages the ozone layer and allows more sunlight through to the earth. Then, the sunlight hits the water in the poles, warming it up, and then the Ice Cap starts to melt down. When the Ice Cap Melts down, the Sea levels will rise, causing MAYOR flooding. For example, Manhattan, GONE!! the sea levels will rise up so that Manhattan will be under water. Does this answer you question? Well just to add on, Humans themselves are speeding the process up by about 200%. Now that's REALLY BAD!!!

  • California Road Trip for two teen best friends?

    My best friend and I want to go on a vacation together. We're both currently 18, but we still need time to save for the trip so it will be another year or so before we take the trip. We live on Long Island in New York and want to experience a dramatically different landscape and we think California is just the ticket.

    I have already done some research and have picked out a few spots I definitely want to check out, but several questions remain about how much time I should dedicate to each destination and the economics of the whole endeavor - we're both students and are on a relatively tight budget. I know we wont be able to do everything I've picked and I'd like some advice on what to do and what to skip. We'd like to balance serene natural experiences with exciting city adventures. As far as nightlife goes, we not into dance clubs and would prefer live music venues. Some suggestions for each city listed would be greatly appreciated. We love rock and alternative music. I also have an obsession with french fries. If you know of any great places for french fries along our journey please share them with me. When we go to the national parks we would camp but when in the bigger cities we could also use some suggestions for cool hotels that arent too pricey.

    Here are the places I would like to visit.

    San Diego

    Torrey Pines State Reserve

    Los Angeles

    Channel Islands National Park

    Hearst Castle

    Big Sur

    Monterey

    Santa Cruz

    San Francisco

    Point Reyes National Seashore

    Yosemite

    Lake Tahoe

    Mendocino

    Arcata

    Redwood National ParkCalifornia Road Trip for two teen best friends?
    Places you should spend more than 1 day

    San Francisco
    Yosemite
    Lake Tahoe - When you get there it can be kind of hard to know where to go. There's no national park visitor's center to tell you the best spots. I recommend Emerald Bay State Park and D.L. Bliss State Park on the southwest side. Meeks Bay is also a nice beach. It's not part of a park but it is open to the public and has more facilities like restaurants and a gift shop. I've heard there are some nice spots on the Nevada side too, but I haven't found them. Don't spend too much time in places like South Lake Tahoe, Stateline, and King's Beach, though it's fine to get a hotel there.

    Places you should spend 1 day

    San Diego
    Los Angeles
    Channel Islands - You pretty much have to. The ferry will leave in the morning and bring you back in the afternoon. I think I'd recommend Santa Cruz Island instead of Anacapa Island. Anacapa Island is more unique, but it's small and it gets crowded when the ferry comes in. Santa Cruz island will be more quiet.
    Big Sur - Maybe. If you want to take a decent hike allow a day. But you can see a lot just by driving and taking short stops at overlooks. Either way, don't miss McWay Beach at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. There is a short about 1 mile trail to where you can see a waterfall cascading onto a beach.

    Places you should spend less than 1 day

    Hearst Castle - But you have to spend about half a day. You can only see it on a tour and the tour lasts about 3-4 hours.
    Monterey
    Santa Cruz
    Mendocino

    Places you might want to skip if you're short on time

    Point Reyes - It's got a nice view from the lighthouse, but it takes quite a while to get there.
    Redwood National Park - It's definitely worth seeing but it's a lot farther north than most of your destinations. You could go to Muir Woods just outside San Francisco instead. I'll be honest, it's not as nice, but you do get to see redwoods.

    Places on your list I don't know much about

    Torrey Pines
    ArcataCalifornia Road Trip for two teen best friends?
    That's quite a list and will take a long time. Cali's a big state. You might want to do the Pacific Coast Highway and see where you can detour from there. Generally people break up their Cali trips into NoCal and SoCal and usually they're done on separate occasions because people in the US don't get long vacation periods. Really, it's a big state.

    Get AAA to map out a trip for you--or do it yourself on Mapquest.com--and you'll see what I mean. I've gone to many, but not all the places you list, but over 5 separate trips, each lasting from 6 to 15 days. I'd pick a route--like PCH as mentioned above--and see where it takes me. We spent a day at the Hearst Castle alone.

    Good luck.

    I need help with some mathematical word problems?

    -sigh- no matter how easy it may be, I am awful at word problems. Is there any website that can help or something? Hee is an example:

    On a trip from Death Valley National Park to Redwood National Park, the Sampson family wants to travel 420 miles in 8 hours of driving. What must be their average rate of speed?

    I need to form and solve an inequality for this problem.

    I can easily solve inequalities, but I cannot form them out of word problems. I don't know why, but I just can't.

    Explain please? =/I need help with some mathematical word problems?
    They want to travel a distance of 420 miles

    In a total time of 8 hours

    So let the average speed (rate) = x

    Rate multiplied by Time = Distance

    x multiplied by 8 = 420

    So 8x = 420

    Divide both by 8

    and you get x = 70 miles per hour

    Hope this helps

    I need help with some mathematical word problems?
    speed = distance divided by time so let s = average speed

    then s = 420/80

    It's not really an inequality unless it has "at most 8 hours" or something like that

    You didn't ask a question, but I'm going to assume you're trying to solve for initial velocity. I think you have a good equation, with a few errors. Gravity is working in the same direction as the initial velocity, downward, so 9.8 should not be negative. I don't know why you put the (-111)^2, I think you meant to write the time there, so you should have

    111m=Vi3.80s+.5(9.81)(3.80)^2

    From there it's very basic math.... if you really need help from there...

    Just subtract the .5(9.81)(3.80)^2 from each side, then divide both sides by 3.80.. and you're done! voila!

    EDIT: also, height is positive, I don't know why you put negative...

    1st time traveling to west of USA (SF, LA, LV & Colorado)?

    Hi, this would be my first time traveling to the west of USA, and I need some help.

    I would have 4 whole weeks in total, and would like to cover the 4 main locations (SF, LA, LV %26amp; Colorado). I would be coming from St. Louis. In Colorado, I would like to visit the yellowstone. In SF, I would want to travel up north to redwood national park. In LV, I would like to visit the Grand Canyon. It will just be 2 of us traveling in total.

    So,

    1. How much time should I allocate for each of the 4 main locations (SF, LA, LV %26amp; Colorado)?

    2. What is the best way to travel from one main location to the other? ( I would probably be taking a flight from St. Louis to Colorado, and then another flight from colorado to one of the 3 locations)?1st time traveling to west of USA (SF, LA, LV %26amp; Colorado)?
    First, a couple of geographic things I need to clear up:

    -Yellowstone is about 450 miles northwest of Denver, in northern Wyoming. Coming from Denver, you'll need to take I-25 north almost to Montana.

    -If you want to see the redwoods, you don't have to go all the way to Redwood National Park. You can go to John Muir Woods Park, just north of San Francisco. It will save you an extre 600 miles of driving (300 each way).

    If I were taking the trip. I would go in this order: Colorado-Yellowstone, San Francisco-John Muir Woods, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas-Grand Canyon. I would recommend taking a local flight from Denver to Cody, where you can easily drive to Yellowstone. I would probably spend 3 full days in Yellowstone. Then take a flight to San Francisco, where you can drive up to John Muir Woods one day, then spend 3 full days in SF. Then drive to LA. LA is bigger than SF, so allow a week. Then you can drive to Las Vegas, spend a couple of days, then drive to the Grand Canyon for a couple days. Then go back to Vegas and grab a flight back to St. Louis.
    San Francisco can be done in 2 days, Los angeles can take years to explore but all the highlights can be seen in a week. Las Vegas takes about 3 days or until you lose your money, ah Colodrado. One of my favorite states! Denver, Vail. Grand Junction. The drive from Denver to Grand Junction (via I 70) Is a definite "E" ticket by itself.

    Have fun!!!1st time traveling to west of USA (SF, LA, LV %26amp; Colorado)?
    Just a word to the wise - Make sure what you allocate for Las Vegas stays close to what you spend. It is easy to drop a much bigger amount then you budgeted.

    Then again who wanted to see LA, SF ect. buy the way do you know you can go to Sequoia, and Kings Canyon on the way to Yosemite? and at least go on Highway 1 between LA and SF in one direction - don't forget Hearse Castle. Make sure you have you tickets for this before you go. At least 2 tours.

    And if you can the dessert is going to be beautiful this year because of the rain. so late March or early April will be best.

    Help with Physics math!?

    The tallest Sequoia sempervirens tree in California's Redwood National Park is 111 m tall. Suppose an object is thrown downward from the top of that tree with a certain initial velocity. If the object reaches the ground in 3.80 seconds, what is the objects initial velocity?

    I don't know what formula to use on this. Please help?Help with Physics math!?
    0=111+vo(3.8)+-4.9(3.8)^2 and solve

    x=xo+vo(t)+ 1/2at^2

    u know

    x=0

    xo=111

    vo=??

    v doesnt matter

    a=-9.8

    t=3.8

    Jon and Kate plus 8 watchers?

    My grandma is kind of crazy... She's been taking a sleeping pill to help her sleep for years now and it's only supposed to be used for 6 months. So she's kind of always in a dream.

    She told me that she saw a Jon and Kate plus 8 episode and Jon, Kate, Mady and Cara went to the Redwood National Park. Niether I or any of my relatives have seen this episode, and let me tell ya, I have seen nearly all the episodes. Tell me, is this just another dream of hers?Jon and Kate plus 8 watchers?
    Is your Grandma happy?

    Well then just let her dream on !

    kate is a *****. i mean you can expect a woman to be a little messed up with 8 kids, but she screamed at john in the toys r us like he was a dog when he was only doing what she told him to do.
    She is right. There was such an episode. :) I've seen it.
    yes it is true there was such a episode.

    NOW why dont you hang out with grandma and be nice to her.

    kate is such a *****.i hope that jon grows a back bone and leaves her a ss.before he flips out and hurts her and goes to jail.he dose not belong in jail.
    Yep, your grandma sure knows her stuff!

    H= V0t + 0.5 g t^2

    V0 =( H - 0.5 g t^2)/t

    V0= (111 - 0.5 x 9.81 (3.80)^2)/ 3.80

    V0=10.6 m/sec
    S=ut+(1/2)at^2

    Where S=111

    u=initial velocity

    a=9.8

    t=3.80

  • Does this involve rate times time equals distance? or no? Please help me.?

    On a trip to Death Valley National park to Redwood national park, the Sampson family wants to travel at least 420 miles in 8 hours of driving. What must be their average rate of speed?Does this involve rate times time equals distance? or no? Please help me.?
    Yes, but you know time and distance and want rate so the equation is x * 8 hours=420 miles.

    To solve divide both sides by 8 to get x=420/8.

    x = 52.5 miles per hour
    420 miles / 8 hours = 52.5 miles / hour.Does this involve rate times time equals distance? or no? Please help me.?
    You think math questions are geography questions just because the math question mentions a place name. Wrong!
