Does muir woods compare to redwood national park?

I'm going to san francisco in march and muir woods is much closer...is it worth the extra 4 hours to drive to redwoods or kings canyon??Does muir woods compare to redwood national park?
I think you're comparing Muir Woods to Sequoia National Park, not Redwood National Park. The big trees in Muir Woods are coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) and the big trees in Sequoia National Park are giant sequoias (Sequoiadendron). They are cousins. The coast redwoods are the tallest trees in the world while the giant sequoias are the most massive trees in the world.

First of all, the coast redwoods in Muir Woods are not anywhere near as tall as the trees in Redwood National Park along the northern California coastline. If you want to see tall trees you should go to Redwood National Park and the State Parks near Eureka. If you want to see the world's largest tree (General Sherman) you will find it in Sequoia National Park. Sequoia NP has the best concentration of giant sequoias and is not to be missed. However, Yosemite also has some very large trees so you can see the giant sequoias there too.

March is not the best time to see these trees. Redwood National Park will be cold and wet while Sequoia National Park will probably still be blanketed in snow. Weather wise the best park to visit during March is Muir Woods. The choice is yours. Have fun.
