Is it worth it to go to the actual Redwood National Forest vs. a smaller park with redwoods somewhere else?

My friends and I are traveling to CA this summer and planning on driving from LA to San Francisco and one friend would really like to go to the Redwood National Park to see the redwoods. Is it worth it to go all the way up there just for that or is there somewhere just as good in between those two cities?Is it worth it to go to the actual Redwood National Forest vs. a smaller park with redwoods somewhere else?
You only live once right? Redwood National Park is an absolute FAVORITE to people. If you go, you will be amazed and you will fall in love.
