I know that the standard tachs will do that, even the speedo. try hooking up after market tach. if it surges try mass airflow sensor throotle sensor, and speed sensor.

I never trust mechanics and dealers.
Okay, best thing to do...go to a mechanic. I can't tell you how many times I have asked my mechanically inclined friends about a problem and have them tell me something totally different from what the real problem was. It's best to just have someone who is trained to look at it and do a thorough inspection.Dodge truck rpm jumps 100-200 rpm while going constant speed 60-80 mph?
if it jumps up 200 rpm and stays there until you go below 60 mph, i would say that its normal. If it fluctuates then id say ask click and clack. the guys on cartalk
Perhaps what you are noticing is the torque converter clutch cycling. It is designed to cycle on %26amp; off depending on road conditions, and this is normal. When the converter clutch cycles on, you will see a drop in RPM's and when it cycles off, you will notice a slight increse in RPM's. The converter clutch is designed for fuel efficency, so when you demand power/torque, it will cycle off, and when you cruise, it will cycle on....Very normal
