The Shy Stranger.................a poem...c\c?

Remember him? I hardly think you would.

When answering, was rarely understood.

You never knew the beauty of his song,

To hear the praises liftting from the throng.

How clever, witty banter filled the air;

And all admiring eyes averted there.

But words of golden nuggets in his mind

Were lodged too deep his tongue could never find.

Unoticed, inching to another group.

The searching inward, delving to recoup

As self estem wrote warrants to reject.

Arrested, bound, imprisoned self respect.

Remember him, the middle of the goup?

A stranger's face with bearing slightly stooped,

The one you never noticed when he yawned;

The one it never dawned on you was gone.The Shy Stranger.................a poem...c\c?
Gene, this takes me back to my classrooms.

The student who was the quietest was the one who always got my fullest attention.

The loud mouthed ones and trouble makers got their own.

Well written, thank you.
This is something that I say with conviction was never the case with me- I felt the loss of the shy stranger and I could never let it go, I am still loooking for lost beings that perhaps never knew I thought of them at all...

You put a lot of heart in this, and the words melt like butter. I am so very proud to know you,The Shy Stranger.................a poem...c\c?
yes it is very nostalgic and takes me to the class room where there were kids just like that. how long they were gone before it was noticed! this happens in any group that has to gather every day. even those at a bus stop waiting for a bus , a train , any where that people are thrown together in a crowd or group .
This poem is well written and poignant Gene. It isn't always the ones who speak the loudest that are heard most. Ma has referred to classroom experiences at school. I have similar memories from both school and the workplace.
It's a superb, and mournful poem,

one which touches a lot of emotions.

But what I am really happy about, is

seeing your friends here, showing that they care...

I too am delighted to know you...{{{hugs}}}
This is a wake-up lament

for a person by inwardness bent

and it is deeply affecting; I know such a one and there is time still..

Thank you Gene for a well-crafted, gently `jus` sayin``. insight.
I still get the impression that some of this relates to you. Shyness in class was never my forte but I knew those that were. You describe well and in a structure laid out equally well.
Good poem,reminding me of myself.

calm,quiet,shy..bye!!!
I enjoyed your word choices, the flow of your poem, and how relatable the emotion is.
He climbed a watchtower, didn't he?
Just one word to comment : Lovely
Gene this is a Beautiful poem , your a excellent poet one I'm horned to be a contact of thank you
I am just glad to be part of a group. Most people of my type are in places despicable and unmentionable to me. HH told me today to be happy he and I are average in this diverse group we occupy (but I still think I am special) - Oh and he is too) - But Gene you are part of a group, like it or not.

I can identify with this poem because for most of my 47 years I never fit in - anywhere. Here in yap people are more open minded and accept me and are kind even. If you are feeling bad - all you have to do is email one or the other of us. You are part of this group - whether you like it or not. - Let me know how you are. Email me!
