Want to become a waitress, need help!?

So far, I haven't had any luck with call backs for an interview. I've applied at TGI Fridays, Applebees, Lonestar, Logans, and Starbucks. (not really waitressing, i know) I don't have any experience as far as waiting tables, but I do have experience in providing great customer service. Should i call and check on the status of these apps? I also have another list of restaurants that I still want to apply to. I have to print their apps, fill them out, then turn them in. Any suggestions on the right way of stopping in and dropping of your application???Want to become a waitress, need help!?
There is nothing wrong with calling back to check on the status of your resume. Don't worry about your experience. A server is an entry level position, so you will likely get hired.... eventually.

However, I suggest that you don't stop with 5 resumes. Get the phone book out and apply at every restaurant in town. Don't worry if they aren't hiring. Trust me, restaurants are always looking for people.

Get a resume together, too. Some restaurants don't have blank application forms. The more you apply, the greater your chances of being hired will be. Five applications is nothing. Go drop off 75 applications, then you can complain about not getting an interview (if you hadn't found a job by then).

Another good tip about restaurants is to always drop off the application between 2pm -4pm. This is the slow time for a restaurant. Sometimes the manager will have time to talk to you if you come in during these times. You might even be able to get an interview on the spot. Its not a good idea to drop off an application during the busy time of the day.

When you call or stop by to check on your application, come in during the slow time. I also like the idea the other person suggested, too. Maybe apply for hostess and bus person as well. Restaurants ALWAYS need people, and they would sooner promote from within than hire someone off the street.

Good Luck!
I worked in a few restaurants for many years. My suggestion is to get into a place. Most restaurants will not hire you as a waitress off the bad with no experience. Most places will want you to start as a hostess or take out. Do it. You learn the menu, and how the place works. I would go back to the places and ask to speak to the manager and ask him/her about your application. Make sure you look nice.Want to become a waitress, need help!?
I didn't have any experience when I got hired at Shoney's around 25 years ago. Back then, though, jobs were more plentiful.

I know you won't want to hear this, but the only reason I got hired (in my opinion) was b/c an acquaintance of mine saw me applying and told the manager I was "good folks." I had belonged to a service organization on the college campus, and Angie had seen me at some of the meetings.

Also, it does matter if you put in an application without the restaurant saying they are hiring. You have a better chance of getting a callback if they *are* hiring. "Accepting applications" doesn't mean they are hiring - it means they expect to be losing some employees soon and will need to have applications available to them.

Good luck and do call a few of the managers to ask about the application you've already turned in. It lets them know you are not just applying everywhere (even though you may be!!).
