Thank you!Hotel near downtown on Las Vegas?
For just walking around and not far to walk downtown is the best place to do it, no cars on Fremont Street (the downtown area) and its covered by the "Fremont Street Experience" but other than that, there really isn't much to see downtown, a few things like the Zipline and the show on the ceiling, Neonopolis and restaruants. All of the action and malls are on Las Vegas BLVD, this is about 3-5 miles south of Fremont Street on Las Vegas BLVD (it runs through the whole valley). It is easy to get from one to the other on "The Duece" - double decker bus. so you can get back to your hotel from the other location. However while Fremont street is about 5 blocks long from end to end and "The Strip" - Las Vegas BLVD with the casinos goes from Sahara to Russel and is 4 miles (appx). But this is where all the Major Casinos are built and along with several Malls/shopping areas. This will all be long walking as these are huge casinos (MGM @ 5000 rooms) down to smaller ones (Tropicana 1800 rooms) and the largest ones downtown are Golden Nuggest @ 2300 rooms.
If your kids don't want to walk far, then downtown is the option, but if they don't mind the walking (which you said they do) then the strip is the place to go.
Downtown is more for adults than kids though due to the less recreation for them to do. Stay on the strip and tell your kids, they are just going to have to walk.
Any advice on which hotel I should book within the strip? Thank you

Hotel near downtown on Las Vegas?I would recommend staying one Las Vegas Blvd if possible. Fremont street is within walking distance but some of the area in between is a bit dodgy. Most of the more family friendly hotels are on Las Vegas Blvd too. As for entertainment it would be sinful to go to Vegas and not see a Cirque du Soleil performance! New York New York has a roller coaster and a lot of the major hotels have family friendly shows and events all the time :) If you get a chance you should definitely check out the red rock canyon trails and go up to lake mead!
