Is it possible to slow down while on a water slide?

I am a big wimp. I don't enjoy adrenaline rushes but I want to be a team player for some things. We are staying at the Golden Nugget in Vegas and I want to enjoy the Water Slide there but I have a big fear of the unknown and losing control etc. Is there any way to make my descent a little slower the first time so I know what I'm getting into? Please don't write with answers like "just do it' or "grow up". I know I am pathetic, I'm just looking for advice here!Is it possible to slow down while on a water slide?
The speed you go is dependent on hydrodynamics (the way things move in water,) gravity, and friction (restricting glide.) So, you want to maximize the friction and use a posture that isn't exactly the smoothest or has the least resistance. The best way to slow yourself down is to apply pressure against the rails of the slide. You can press your legs, arms, hands, etc. against both sides. By all means spread your legs out. sitting would probably be best, but it might also be the most scary, and could cause you to injure yourself, if you can't equalize your friction.

that can actually be really dangerous and time consuming for other riders. and no water slide dont have rail for that one reason. if you slow down and you arent quite in an area where the life guard can see them may send another person down whos going to crash into you. and if you take to long im pretty sure they wont let you back on either.honestly i really think you just need to suck it up. slowing down like that is a safety risk. i've seen bad things happen because of people who did that. i almost got a concussion from a guy who decided halfway down he wanted to stop and i crashed into him and 5 other people he was blocking. just take the plunge you arent going to fall out or anything.
Well, You know how there are rails on the side of a slide? You could grab onto those, then they'll make you stop and slow down. But, if you do that, the lifegurad or whatever might get mad, but other than that, I do not have answer.
Sit down, don't lay. Really press your buttox into the slide and press your heels into the slide too. Also if you pull your legs closer to yourself, then you can use the soles of your feet and your toes too.
I would just buy a magic goose then wish for suction-cup hands. Thats what I would do.
Just hold to the sides of the water slide...
